MESCALERO INDIAN HOSPITAL RENOVATION: MESCALERO, NM

This project is a renovation and expansion of the existing facility. The facility was constructed in 1968, and a challenge to reuse and adapt the facility and maintain its historical integrity. This is a major consideration to design the addition and renovation for the facility. The project included a review and verification of the Program of Requirements generated in 2013 for the affected departments - primary care, pharmacy, laboratory, patient benefits, patient registration and patient waiting. These departments have outgrown the space. Existing outpatient primary care is in two small areas on two floors and will be consolidated into one area in the addition. Medical equipment is larger and the data needs are greater for the laboratory and pharmacy. The departments adapted to the equipment resulting in small, cramped spaces. Also, the patient volumes have increased, requiring more staff for the departments. Options were provided to expand the facility for the departments. The addition will incorporate a new and separate mechanical system, electrical system, water and wastewater. This project will be reviewed by the State Historic Preservation Office and the Tribal Historic Preservation Office. The construction documents will be completed by April 2018 and Construction will begin thereafter.
