San Carlos Head Start Building
Indigenous Design Studio + Architecture (IDS+A) was selected to provide A/E services for a new Head Start Center for children of the San Carlos Community. A/E Services included: Master Planning, Boundary + Topographic Survey, Geotechnical Engineering, Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents. The new Head Start building 13,000 square foot, including eight (8) Head Start classrooms for children ages 3-5. The new building provides spaces for the operation of the Head Start (Pre-School) program, and while it does not provide space for Early Head Start (Infant / Toddler), the design considers flexibility to add classrooms for the Early Head Start program. The current programs allocates space for Head Start Classrooms, Administration + Office Space, Commercial Kitchen, Support Spaces, Entry Spaces, and Outdoor Play Space. The focus of the new Head Start building was to improve children’s well-being, introduce foundations of the Apache language, learning, and promote interactive educational experiences, in addition to actively involving parents in their children’s learning.
