The Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribe awarded Indigenous Design Studio + Architecture with providing designs for a new Detention Center. The IDS+A team was tasked with designing a facility in coordination with the BIA that includes 19 male beds and 6 female beds. This facility includes Administration, Building Support, Food Services, Health and Medical Support, Inmate Housing , Inmate Visiting, Intake / Processing, and Laundry Facilities. The driving force behind the design is restorative justice that embraces culture, local context and the community as a whole.
